Boeing 737 Max Resumes Operation In China After 2019 Grounding: Report

  • Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) has resumed commercial operations of 737 Max in China, after a four-year hiatus.
  • China Southern Airlines Co (NYSE:ZNH), China’s largest airline operated the 737-8 Max that was delivered in November 2017, Bloomberg reported.
  • The flight took off from Guangzhou and headed to Zhengzhou.
  • The 737 Max model was not used to fly passengers in China after it was grounded in 2019 after crashes in Ethiopia and Indonesia, killing 346 people.

  • China was the first country to ground the Max. The service return was approved in December 2021 after the crash-linked software was updated.
  • China procured about a third of the 737 jets that Boeing built before grounding. The latest move is expected to Boeing’s export to its most important foreign market.
