The Trenton City Council has approved Ed Forchion - a notorious figure in the underground legacy who goes by the nickname NJWeedman - to open a legal New Jersey cannabis dispensary, reported Heady NJ.
The marijuana activist pushed to convert his NJWeedman’s Joint across the street from Trenton City Hall into a legal dispensary under the name NJWeedman’s.
“This is a long time coming,” NJWeedman said to the council, explaining he has a conditional New Jersey cannabis dispensary license from the NJ Cannabis Regulatory Commission (NJ-CRC). “This month, 26 years ago, was my first felony arrest for selling marijuana. Here I am asking the city council to approve my resolution to, among other things, sell marijuana legally.”
Meanwhile, the Garden Greenz Dispensary opened on the downtown Newark Avenue Pedestrian Plaza in Jersey City on Halloween.
Jersey City Diversity and Inclusion Director Dr. Floyd Jeter praised the opening of the new store.
“I am a big supporter of this because a lot of people who were marginalized in the Black and Brown communities can actually get a chance now to actually be viable now to also change their social status,” he explained. “That opportunity works out when they’re passionate about it. You’re going to get better workers. You get somebody who believes it and likes it.”
