'Have You Used Siri Lately?' Elon Musk Answers MKBHD After Tim Cook Teases 'Exciting' AI Developments From Apple This Year

Author: Rounak Jain | May 03, 2024 09:32am

Tesla Inc. CEO and xAI founder Elon Musk answered tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee, also known as MKBHD's question about Apple Inc.'s (NASDAQ:AAPL) virtual assistant, Siri.

What Happened: Responding to MKBHD’s post on X, formerly Twitter, Musk agreed with another user who expressed his dissatisfaction with Siri.

“On one hand: It seems like it’s only a matter of time before Apple starts making major AI-related moves around the iPhone and iOS and buries these AI-in-a-box gadgets extremely quickly. On the other hand: Have you used Siri lately?” asked MKBHD.

Another user responded, saying, "I've literally disabled Siri on every iPhone I've owned since Siri was introduced."

Musk had a one-word response: "Same."

Why It Matters: This exchange comes after Apple’s Q2 2024 earnings call. MKBHD and the co-creator of Dogecoin Billy Markus criticized Siri for its underwhelming performance.

Musk’s agreement with MKBHD’s critique highlights the growing dissatisfaction with Apple’s AI capabilities, although CEO Tim Cook is "very bullish."

Apple is reportedly gearing up to unveil Siri 2.0, a transformative update designed to address long-standing criticisms and challenge its rivals head-on in the voice assistant war.

Apple is setting the stage to unveil a series of generative AI-based tools at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June. This initiative, part of iOS 18, signifies a significant leap in Apple's AI strategy, showcasing a new version of Siri enhanced with generative AI capabilities.
