South Korean tech behemoth Samsung (OTC:SSNLF) is under investigation following the exposure of two of its chip workers to radiation at its Giheung plant.

What Happened: The South Korean Nuclear Safety and Security Commission has initiated an investigation into the incident where two Samsung employees exhibited “abnormal” symptoms of radiation exposure in their fingers, CNBC reported on Wednesday. The employees are currently receiving medical treatment.

The incident took place at Samsung’s Giheung plant, situated about 25 miles south of Seoul. The machine implicated in the radiation exposure has been suspended by the authorities, while the exact cause is yet to be determined.

The commission has stated that it would take additional measures if any breaches of safety laws are confirmed during the ongoing investigation.

Why It Matters: This incident comes at a time when Samsung is facing potential labor unrest, with its union threatening a first-ever strike over wage demands. The radiation exposure incident could further strain the company’s relations with its workforce.

Moreover, Samsung recently expanded its partnership with Advanced Micro Devices, with plans to boost market share with new 3nm chips.

Earlier this year, concerns were raised about the potential health risks of wireless technology, with questions about whether Apple‘s Wi-Fi and Bluetooth could ‘cook’ your brain. This latest incident at Samsung could add to the growing concerns about the safety of technology manufacturing processes.
