Amazon.com Inc‘s (NASDAQ:AMZN) Amazon Games has been steadily progressing with its plans for two major gaming projects: Tomb Raider and The Lord of the Rings.
In December 2022, Amazon partnered with Embracer Group ADR‘s (OTC:EBCRY) Crystal Dynamics to develop the next installment in the Tomb Raider series. Despite this announcement, specific information about the game’s development has been sparse.

Christoph Hartmann, Amazon Games chief, mentioned in an interview with Variety that a reveal is forthcoming: “It's not going to be tomorrow, but it's not too far away.”
Moreover, Hartmann stressed the importance of maintaining high standards for these games, adding: “It has to be triple-A quality, because the bar is so high.”
Similarly, Amazon’s collaboration with Embracer Group for The Lord of the Rings MMO was announced in May 2023. Details remain under wraps since its initial reveal.
Set in Middle-earth, the MMO (massively multiplayer online game) aims to explore narratives from The Hobbit and other tales within Tolkien’s universe.
Beyond gaming, Amazon plans to synchronize its entertainment offerings. Prime Video will host adaptations such as the Tomb Raider live-action series and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
Hartmann suggested that these projects do not necessarily need to be interconnected for success, drawing parallels to Sony Group Corp‘s (NYSE:SONY) approach with Marvel’s Spider-Man.
“It does not need to be always that everything is mingled together, but it's really one brand, which really just shows for me why transmedia nowadays is so important, and how games is such a vital part,” he concluded.
