Stellantis Recalls More Than 341K Vehicles Over Concerns Of Airbag Non-Deployment, Incorrect Pressure Information On Tire Placard

Stellantis NV (NYSE:STLA) is recalling 332,000 vehicles in the U.S. over concerns that a seat belt buckle switch sensor may be improperly connected, preventing the front seat airbag from deploying.

What Happened: The recall population includes several model years of Alfa Romeo Giulia, Alfa Romeo Stelvio, Fiat 500X, Jeep Renegade, and Fiat 500E vehicles.

A seat belt buckle switch sensor may be improperly connected, preventing the front seat airbag from deploying in case of a crash and increasing risks of injury, the U.S. auto safety regulator National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said.

As for a solution, the company’s dealers will repair the connection, free of charge to the customer.

While the company identified 578 field reports in North America potentially related to the issue, it is not aware of any accidents or injuries due to it in any market, it said.

Why It Matters: Stellantis on Wednesday also issued a separate recall for over 9000 Alfa Romeo Giulia and Alfa Romeo Stelvio vehicles over concerns of incorrect tire pressure and size information on the tire placard and manufacturer labels.

Last month, Stellantis issued a recall of over a million vehicles in the U.S. over concerns that the radio software may prevent the rearview image from displaying. The company fixed the issue by updating the radio software on affected vehicles.
