All In: Trulieve Fuels Florida Campaign With Another $1M To Biggest Fund In History

Author: Rolando García | July 11, 2024 01:29pm

Cannabis leader Trulieve Cannabis Corp (OTC:TCNNF) recently contributed another $1 million to Smart & Safe Florida, adding to what is already the single largest pro-cannabis fund in U.S. history.

This addition brings Trulieve’s total support for Amendment 3 to nearly $55 million over two years, reported Florida Politics. The amendment seeks to legalize recreational cannabis in Florida and will be voted on Nov. 5.

Trulieve’s substantial backing has made it the initiative’s primary supporter. The initiative faces the fierce opposition of Florida’s GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Trulieve Adds To Its Florida Fund

This ballot initiative has drawn unprecedented financial support. Smart & Safe Florida’s June 10 campaign filings revealed the campaign raised more than any other marijuana-related ballot measure committee in a single election cycle.

Trulieve’s record-breaking donations have set a new precedent for financial backing in cannabis legalization efforts.

Smart & Safe reported the latest donation in its campaign report covering June 29 to July 5. The committee already spent funds on TV and radio ads, as it plans to spend over $1 million on ads in July featuring trial lawyer John Morgan aka “Pot Daddy.” In the ads, Morgan, who led the push for medical marijuana, urges voters to declare their “independence” and support recreational marijuana.

The marijuana fund has close to $12.5 million to spend before November.

In contrast, DeSantis’ Florida Freedom Fund raised only $10,000 in its first five weeks. Despite this lack of money coming in for the anti-cannabis agenda, DeSantis continues with anti-cannabis propaganda, claiming legalization will turn Florida into cities like San Francisco or Chicago.

He also argues Amendment 3 would allow excessive cannabis consumption in public spaces, including near schools.

What Are The Polls Saying?

A recent Fox News poll shows broad public support, with 66% of Floridians favoring adult-use cannabis legalization. Recreational marijuana needs a 60% “yes” vote to pass in November. If approved, adults 21 and older could possess and purchase marijuana for recreational use.

Florida’s cannabis Amendment 3 vote will be a hot topic in the upcoming Benzinga Cannabis Capital Conference in Chicago this Oct. 8-9.
