Sony Group Corp.’s (NYSE:SONY) PlayStation announced the release of a new PlayStation VR2 app on Steam, set to launch on Aug. 6, 2024.

Spotted by Tech Radar, the Steam listing for the PlayStation VR2 app states that users will required to have a PlayStation VR2 headset, Sense controllers with Bluetooth connection and a PlayStation VR2 PC adapter. This adapter, which is essential for the connection, is scheduled to hit the market on Aug. 7, 2024, priced at $59.99.

The setup process involves updating the firmware for both the headset and controllers, ensuring users can optimize their VR experience.

Adjustments such as setting the play area and screen brightness can be managed directly from the SteamVR dashboard, providing a customizable and user-friendly interface.

PlayStation VR2 System Requirements And Compatibility

For seamless functionality, the PlayStation VR2 PC adapter requires a PC with DisplayPort 1.4 compatibility and at least 8 GB of RAM.

After the initial setup, users must keep the PlayStation VR2 app installed on their PC to continue accessing VR games and apps via Steam.

Expanding PlayStation’s PC Presence

This move aligns with PlayStation’s broader strategy to expand its footprint in the PC gaming market. The recent success of Ghost of Tsushima, which became the best-selling game in the U.S. in May 2024 following its PC release, shows the growing demand for PlayStation titles on PC platforms.

Additionally, rumors are circulating about potential PC ports for other major titles, including The Last Of Us Part 2 and Stellar Blade.
