Stranger Things Comes To Broadway: How You Can Get Tickets To Hit Netflix Show On Stage

Author: Chris Katje | August 07, 2024 03:45pm

While fans await a fifth and final season of “Stranger Things” in 2025, they may also treat themselves to a live version of the show on Broadway

What Happened: After playing in London’s West End, "Stranger Things: The First Shadow" is coming to the U.S.

It will make its Broadway debut with previews beginning on March 28, 2025. The official opening night will be in April.

Netflix Inc (NASDAQ:NFLX) and Sonia Friedman Productions produced the show, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The show’s current run began in December 2023.

"Stranger Things: The First Shadow" is a prequel to the events in the Netflix series. Fans may recognize several characters in the play like younger versions of Joyce, Bob Newby and Hopper.

Kat Trefry and Jack Thorne wrote the play with “Stranger Things” creators Matt and Ross Duffer (aka The Duffer Brothers).

Thorne previously wrote the stage adaptation of "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child."

Casting for the Broadway version will has yet to take place. Tickets for the Broadway show are available for presale on Sept. 13 and available to all on Sept. 17.

The London play earned two Olivier Awards.

Why It's Important: No date has been announced for the fifth season of "Stranger Things," which means the Broadway play could launch before fans get a chance to stream the final episodes.

The launch of the play on Broadway continues Netflix's entry into the stage. The company produced "Patriots," a play written by "The Crown" creator Peter Morgan, that included a portion of the storyline on Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Like the “Stranger Things” play, “Patriots” also played in London before heading to Broadway.

Fans of "Stranger Things" are also likely getting several spinoffs of the hit series and the Duffer Brothers have more content in store for Netflix outside of the franchise.

"Stranger Things" became a massive hit for Netflix since its premiere in 2016. The franchise has become a consumer products and IP licensing powerhouse and remains one of the most-watched series in Netflix's history.

The fourth season of “Stranger Things” broke records for an English-language series. Viewers watched about 287 million hours of the show in the first week. Viewership for the fourth season totaled 1.35 billion hours in the first 28 days.

NFLX Price Action: Netflix stock trades at $615.03 versus a 52-week trading range of $344.73 to $697.49.
