Donald Trump Returns To X For Sit-Down Interview With Elon Musk: Here's What You Need To Know

Author: Aaron Bry | August 12, 2024 12:59pm

Former President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk are set for a sit-down interview to be broadcast on X, formerly Twitter, on Monday night.

Trump made his first post on X in a year on Monday when he tweeted a picture of his mugshot with a campaign link to raise money.

It was followed by another tweet at around 11:30 a.m. E.T. featuring a video clip promoting his presidential bid. The clip gained more than six million views and hundreds of thousands of likes in less than an hour.

When Is The Musk/Trump Interview? The interview between Musk and Trump is planned for 8 p.m. E.T. The interview allows Trump to get his message out to millions of viewers, and will also help X as it tries to break into the live-streaming industry.

X has dealt with technical issues while trying to run large live streams in the past. In 2023, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis used X to announce his presidential candidacy, and the platform glitched as more than 300,000 people tried to join the stream, according to the AP.

Musk tested X's streaming capabilities by broadcasting him playing video games on Sunday evening. Musk's video game streams each collected around 10 million views, but his interview with Musk could gather much more.

Musk has said the conversation with Trump will be unscripted, and there are no topics off limits. He also asked X users to submit their own questions for the presidential candidate.

Shares of Trump Media & Technology Group's (NASDAQ:DJT), which owns and operates Truth Social, traded lower Monday morning after Trump's return to X. Musk, along with other Silicon Valley billionaires, endorsed Trump's bid for the White House following a failed assassination attempt on Trump in July.
