Is Red Dead Redemption Coming To PC? PlayStation Store Sparks Rumors

Author: Franca Quarneti | August 13, 2024 11:53am

A recent update on Sony Group Corp.‘s (NYSE:SONY) PlayStation Store has reignited speculation that Red Dead Redemption could finally be making its way to PC.

The PlayStation Store’s listing erroneously claimed the game is “now on PC.” That was quickly corrected, and it has led to renewed interest in the possibility of a PC port, IGN reported.

Red Dead Redemption, originally released in 2010, has long been available exclusively on consoles, despite significant demand for a PC version.

The PlayStation Store’s update, which included references to a PC version, has fueled speculation that Take-Two Interactive Software Inc‘s (NASDAQ:TTWO) Rockstar Games may be preparing to release the game on the platform.

Potential PC Port Features, Rockstar’s History With Delayed PC Releases

The updated description on the PlayStation Store, first reported by @Wario64 on X.com (formerly Twitter), stated: “Experience the epic western adventures that defined a generation — now on PC for the first time ever.” The description also mentioned that the PC version would include Undead Nightmare, a horror-themed expansion to the game.

This development follows a May 2024 datamine of Rockstar Games' website, which also hinted at a possible PC port. The PlayStation Store update has led many to believe that an official announcement could be imminent.

The description highlighted potential enhancements for the PC version, including support for increased resolutions, higher frame rates, multiple display setups, and spatial surround sound. However, it was also noted that the PC version would not include multiplayer content.

Rockstar Games has a history of delaying PC releases of its games. Grand Theft Auto V, for example, was released on PC more than a year after its console debut. Similarly, no PC version of the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI has been announced.
