In a strategic move to strengthen its position in the rapidly growing quick commerce sectorAmazon's (NASDAQ:AMZN) India unit is gearing up to launch its quick commerce service in 2025.

What Happened: Amazon India is poised to introduce its quick commerce service next year, according to a report by the Economic Times. The service, which guarantees delivery in less than an hour, is set to debut in select cities before a nationwide rollout.

The U.S. retailer’s Indian unit has assigned the task of developing its quick commerce strategy to a senior executive as part of a leadership restructuring, targeting the rapidly growing sector recently entered by rival Walmart-backed Flipkart's "Minutesservice.

Nishant Sardana, previously responsible for the PC, audio, camera and large appliances business at Amazon India, has been reportedly appointed to lead the quick commerce initiative.

This move by Amazon India is expected to escalate competition in the quick commerce sector, which has seen a surge in growth in the country. The launch of this service is a crucial step for Amazon in its bid to compete with local competitors such as Zomato's Blinkit and BigBasket's BB Now, which have already established a presence in the quick commerce sector.

This development, however, coincides with ongoing discussions between Amazon and Swiggy regarding a potential stake acquisition — particularly in Swiggy's quick service platform, Instamart, according to the report.
